Q3.
Do I need a dance partner for partner dances such as Salsa,
Street Cha-Cha, Merengue,
Bachata, Salsa Casino Rueda?
A.
No, you are not required to join the courses with a partner. Just as there will be ladies who
attend the class/course singly; likewise, there are gentlemen without partners.
Salsa and all other partner-dances offered at GROOVE are not monogamous in nature. In
fact, we encourage you to dance with as many partners as possible to better your lead/
follow skills.
Typically, our instructors encourage students to change partners to get used to
leading/following a stranger during the course. Of course, if you prefer to stick to your own
partner, that works out well too. |
|
Q4.
Do you have equal number of men and women in your partner-dance classes?
A.
In most cases, we do not have an equal ratio of the sexes. However, because we
encourage changing of partners, every student has a chance to execute their newly-learnt
dance patterns on a number of partners to check their lead/ follow techniques. This is
practised in most dance schools both nationwide and worldwide.
In rare cases where there is an apparent imbalance of sex ratio, our more advanced
students will be assisting the classes to ensure a better balance between the sexes.
|
|
Q5.
I am not comfortable dancing in a
group. Do you offer private classes?
A.
Group classes are an economical way to learn and make new
friends. However, your
learning capability may be different
from your classmates. Private classes are an excellent
way to learn fast and focus on specific
aspects of your dance techniques. Our private
classes rates may be found here. Please note that we only offer private classes on
Saturdays & Sundays at our Waterloo branch only.
Please e-mail us at
info@groove.com.sg for private classes rates.

Q7.
Are there any trial classes which I may attend before I
decide to sign-up for an entire
course?
A.
No, we do not offer trial classes on regular basis except on special occasions throughout
the year (such as Anniversary of the School and other Marketing Campaigns). You may opt
to pay for a single session fee and participate in a single lesson of a Level 1 course. It is
preferable that you attend the 1st lesson of the entire course. Registration procedure for a
single session or an entire course should follow the same process as the online course

Q10.
What must I wear?
A.
You should wear as follow:
For Salsa Beginners Level 1 &
2, Ladies/ Men's Styling, Merengue, Street Cha-Cha &
Bachata:
• If you are heading
to the studio after work, office gear will suffice.
• If you are heading
to the studio from home, gym gear or casual clothes are
acceptable.
• Men: No slippers/flip-flops.
Shoes are preferred.
• Ladies: No slippers/flip-flops/slip-ons.
Heels with ankle support are preferred.
For
Salsa Intermediate; Advance & Men’s Styling:
Same
as above, but also avoid track shoes with soles that provide
a lot of friction. Ladies
may
want to consider investing in a pair of dance heels with
good ankle support and suede
soles.
Refer to this link
to purchase your shoes.
For
Cardio Salsa, Latin Jam, Reggaeton, Hip-Hop:
• Gym gear.
•
Dance sneakers and jazz shoes are acceptable for Cardio
Salsa/ Latin Jam/ Reggaeton and Hip-Hop classes.
•
Bring your own hand towel/ small towel to wipe away perspiration.
Exotic Dance & Pole Dance:
•
Gym gear, preferably tight-fitting ones to allow good view of muscle movements.
•
For footwear: do bring along a pair of heels with ankle straps.
•
For higher levels of Exotic Dance, we do NOT encourage students to use short as there
will be a lot of floorwork and this requires students to be on their knees for a fair bit.
Alternatively, you may also wish to use knee guards.
Lap
Dance:
•
Gym gear, preferably tight-fitting ones to view the muscle movements.
•
Do bring along a pair of heels with ankle straps.
•
According to the instructors’ specifications, you may be asked to bring a button down
long-sleeved shirt to incorporate stripping into the dance lesson. Ask your instructor on
the first day of class if your Lap Dance Course requires this (usually on the 2nd – 4th
lesson only).
Pole Dance:
•
For Pole Dancing, opt for sports Tank or crop top & shorts (a MUST!). Avoid 3-quarter
pants or sleeves because the pole adheres better to bare skin. In practicing advance
pole stunts such as inverts, besides strength & technique, we largely require friction
between skin and pole to stay in the position. Hence we need to wear clothes that expose
some skin.
•
For footwear: do bring along a pair of heels with ankle straps.
Belly
Dance:
•
Gym gear, preferably tight-fitting ones to view the muscle movements.
•
No footwear is required.
•
For levels 1, no Belly Dance Hip Scarf is required. Check with your instructor of the first
day of class if you want to purchase hip-scarves.
Please
note to bring along this completed copy of this
registration
form with you on your
first
day at our studio (only applicable for first visits to the
studio). |

through this link. We also plan our classes for the duration of a 4-8 week period only. By
doing so, we trust students are able to commit easily and plan their time ore effectively.

in personal plans, you may wish to see if there is a class of the same category, level and

Q15.
Your website shows classes by both Groove Dance School and Belly Dance
Discovery? I am unsure of my class registration procedures.
A.

is true for the Tras street branch only). Groove Dance School specializes in Salsa, Street
Cha-Cha, Bachata, Merengue, Exotic Dance, Lap Dance, Pole Dance and Pole Groove.

Q16.
Are there any fees (other than the course fee) that I should be aware about?
A.
To enjoy preferential rates, you may wish to join our membership scheme at only $20/ per
annum. You will then enjoy the member’s price listed for all our courses during the term of
your membership.
If you are not a member, you will have to pay the non-member’s rate. (Please note that we
only introduced the membership system in May 2008 to reward members. This would
mean that even if you have taken classes with us before May 2008, you do not
automatically qualify as a member).
As specified before, Groove Dance School shares its premise with our partners Belly
Dance Discovery & Acro Polates who have different operations system. For courses with
them, do check with them separately.
• In short, to enjoy members’ rates for any course offered by Groove Dance School, a $20/
annum membership fee will have to be paid by the student.
• To join any dance course offered by our partners, your Groove membership fee will not
automatically entitle you to privileges offered by them. That said, we encourage you to
inform our partners that you are members of Groove Dance School just in case they
have something in store for you! |
